Details as performer
Helder Filipe Gonçalves was born in 1976 in Castelo Branco (Portugal) where he concluded the Piano Conservatory Course. After a brief passage as a student at the Jazz School of Hot Clube de Portugal, he completed the degree in Composition at the Superior School of Music in Lisbon, where he studied with Christopher Bochmann, António de Sousa Dias and António Pinho Vargas, among others. He also obtained a pos-graduate diploma in Educational Technology, from the Faculty of Psychology and Educational Sciences of the Lisbon University. He attended PhD seminars in Communication Sciences at the New University of Lisbon, where he made research on acousmatic music in audiovisual contexts, under the guidance of Tomás Henriques. After moving to the University of Beira Interior he has realized a PhD in the area of sound for film, under the guidance of professor Vasco Diogo.

He teaches Sound Design at the UBI Film, Multimedia and Videogames Courses. He has been teaching Analysis and Composition Techniques at the Conservatories of Covilhã, Fundão and Belmonte. He teached Orchestration, Auditory Training, Acoustics and Sound for Video and Multimedia at the IPCB Music Courses.

In his music, which has already been presented in Lisbon, Guarda, Belmonte, Covilhã, Fundão, Montemor-o-Novo or Nancy, among others, it is easy to find programmatic intentions and the influence of film music as well as cinematic structuring processes. He has created soundtracks for plays premiered by the Teatro das Beiras (Covilhã). Helder Filipe Gonçalves tends to enhance the listener's experience by means of enriching the sound result metaphorically and / or in its relationship with images and narrative.
