João Quinteiro is a Portuguese Composer and an Integrated Researcher at the CESEM (FCSH–UNL) where, in collaboration with the University of Music and Performing Arts Graz and the Luigi Nono Archive Foundation in Venice, he is undertaking his PhD in Artistic Studies – Art and Mediation, with the project Nono, Lachenmann, Mark Andre, the Performance of the Body as an Archetype Mechanism of Insurrection: a Genealogy of Opera after Darmstadt. It's integrated in the creation of the opera Regresso, under the orientation of Paula Ribeiro, Paulo Assis and Beat Furrer. In 2013 he concluded a Master's Degree in Composition at the University of Aveiro and a Master's Degree in Philosophy at the Nova University of Lisbon – FCSH. He studied composition with João Pedro Oliveira, Isabel Soveral, Emmanuel Nunes and Beat Furrer, having also contacted and worked in courses and seminars with composers, such as Brian Ferneyhough, Flô Menezes and Helmut Lachenmann.

For the past five years João Quinteiro has taught Composition Analysis & Techniques and Acoustics at the Ourearte – Art and Music School of Ourem.


He's member of the Directors' Board of the APC – Portuguese Association of Composers.


João Quinteiro's music has been performed, commissioned and awarded by groups and performers, such as the Gulbenkian Orchestra, the Lisbon Ensemble 20/21, the GMCL – Lisbon Contemporary Music Group, the OpuSpiritum Ensemble and the MISE-EN Ensemble.
