 Robert Glassburner studied at Wichita State University with Dennis Michel and Michael Dicker, and at the Yale School of Music with Arthur Weisberg. He also studied with Harold Goltzer of the New York Philharmonic. He was first bassoon in the Connecticut Philharmonic (1979-1980), second/contra in the Maracaibo Symphony Orchestra, Venezuela (1980-1983), first bassoon in the Mexico City Opera (1983-1985) and in the Teatro S. Carlos, Lisbon (1985-1989). Between 1990 and 1993 he played with the Limburgs Symphonie Orkest, Maastricht, the Radio Filharmonisch Orkest, Hilversum, the Orquesta Sinfónica de Galicia, with the Begeleidings Orkest, Roterdam, and with the Ensemble Ad Libitum, Maastricht. In 1993 he entered the Orquestra Nacional do Porto where is now plays assistant principal bassoon. He was a prize winner in the National Collegiate Solo Competition (USA), and in the Concours International de l’UFAM (Paris). As a solist he has performed in inummerable european festivals. Robert Glassburner also studied electronic music with Morton Subotnick and attended to workshops on improvised music with John Cage and Evan Parker. He was an invited artist of the Orlando Festival in Holland, and in the Contemporary Music Festival of the Gulbenkian Foundation and the Música Viva Festival in Lisbon. Since 1995 he is a professor of bassoon and chamber music in the Porto Conservatory and in the Professional Music School of Espinho. He is also a guest professor in the College of Performing Arts in Porto and has given master classes in the College of Applied Arts (Castelo Branco), the Música Viva Festival (Lisbon), the College of Performing Arts (Porto), Wichita State University (USA) and the Royal College of Music (London).
