noD 1 is the overture to doN. This section, like the remainder of the work, explores the random conjugation of acoustical, visual and dramatic paradoxes on the temporal axis where musical, visual and dramatic events develop: a man who wants to compose; a man who wants to play; a man who wants to dance.
- The man who dances visits (paradoxically coming from another world) the man who composes.
- The man who is composing should be absent.
- The man who plays is a medium between the actions and the desires of the two other men.
The stage design (the virtual garden) helps to place the meeting between the first two men. The different gardens could be seen as attempts by Monet to represent light, as the persistence of a gaze on the same image, gradually filtered by different levels of perception. The gardens, as a symbol, keep the secrets of the man who wants to dance and the man who wants to compose. The stereotype globally represented by these two beings is fundamentally situated within the drama of loss and the infinite pain of Nostalgia. The trumpet announces something angelic and ethereal. If the two visiting men were Cage and Cunningham, Mathias Osterworld would say: ‘If you may so say, Cage goes Gothic’.
