CONSTANÇA CAPDEVILLE "IN FOCUS" ON MIC.PT IN MARCH
Constança Capdeville left us 20 years ago! In March the mic.pt “In Focus” section is thus dedicated to one of the most important personalities in the 20th century Portuguese music: Constança Capdeville, who passed away in February 1992 at the age of 55. Composer, pianist, percussionist and a “driving force” of the Portuguese music environment, she influenced both composers and performers of new music, to whom she transmitted her ideas of music theatre, or theatre-music as she used to say. Throughout her life Constança Capdeville founded various groups such as Convivium Musicum and ColecViva. Her activity as composer was always connected with that of piano and percussion performer and, in this context, she worked with the Menestréis de Lisboa and with the Lisbon Contemporary Music Group, for which she wrote some of her compositions. She also distinguished herself as teacher. Her particular approach in pedagogical activity marked her pupils, some of them presently recognized composers – António de Sousa Dias, Eurico Carrapatoso, Sérgio Azevedo, Tomás Henriques and Virgílio Melo, among others.
