PORTUGUESE WOMEN COMPOSERS "IN FOCUS" ON MIC.PT IN OCTOBER
In October the "In Focus" section of the mic.pt highlights Portuguese women composers, whose activity nowadays has an indelible influence in the Portuguese music environment. It is not a great surprise that there are few Portuguese women composers born before 1970. The circumstances of the country's musical life until the 21st century did not favour the development of careers in composition, due to lack of opportunities of works' performance and shortage in commissions. In the case of women, for whom, traditionally, musical career reserved the functions of performer or teacher, this effect is even more evident – and one can almost think of the ones that persisted, not only in the category of tenacity but also nonconformity. Constança Capdeville, whose 75th anniversary is celebrated this year and who left us 20 years ago, together with Clotilde Rosa, constitute emblematic examples of artistic and intellectual liberty, which traced the path for the present generations of Portuguese women composers, whose significant function in the Portuguese music life nowadays (even if improperly acknowledged) contrasts with the almost complete lack of feminine musical creation in the past. This month the mic.pt "In Focus" section publishes a text by Manuela Paraíso presenting the profile of Portuguese feminine composition of the 20th and 21st century.

The 5th edition of the Sound Walk / Sound Garden, collective and original installation, which results from an international invitation directed by the Miso Music Portugal to composers of electroacoustic music, was launched on October 1 at 3h00 p.m. and until October 10 will be giving the visitors of the Goethe-Institut Garden the possibility to immerse in various soundscapes, this year under the sound-text composition theme.
On October 8, during an extraordinary concert, with an introduction realized by Pedro Amaral, the Festival gives homage to Emmanuel Nunes.
The 2nd International Forum for Young Composers, this year organized in collaboration with the Música Viva Festival by the Sond'Ar-te Electric Ensemble, the Goethe-Institut in Lisbon and the Musikhochschule in Munich will be taking place between October 6 and 10. JORGE PEIXINHO - CRITICAL EDITION OF THE CHAMBER WORKS
Jorge Peixinho (J.P.) is a key reference in the Portuguese music of the 2nd half of the 20th century. An early talent, traveler to the major centers in the vanguard of post-war Europe, critic, performer, teacher, organizer of numerous meetings and cultivator of lasting friendships J.P. always demonstrated a firm and tenacious will to transform the musical landscape that surrounded him, even when the circumstances and the results were adverse to him. Born in Montijo in 1940 and prematurely died in 1995 in Lisbon, J.P. is the author of a work that remains essentially unpublished.
Through the study of manuscripts autographs, its editorial treatment and the concrete publication of works and groups of works, this project is defined as a first step toward a Critical Edition of the Complete Work of J.P.
