ÂNGELA LOPES "IN FOCUS" ON MIC.PT IN NOVEMBER
This Autumn the mic.pt gives highlight to Portuguese women composers, so in November the "In Focus" section publishes a Questionaire / Interview presenting the composer Ângela Lopes, this year celebrating her 40th anniversary. Ângela Lopes considers herself to be an inspired "artisan", interested in experimenting with all musical genres – "from solo and chamber to orchestral music; from acoustic and mixed to pure electroacoustic music; from opera to theatre or film; music for exhibitions and installations; from secular to religious; form romantic to formal." She studied with such composers as Cândido Lima, Virgílio Melo and Álvaro Salazar, finding inspiration in the work of Olivier Messiaen, Iannis Xenakis, Karlheinz Stockhausen or Jonathan Harvey, among others, and using a variety of compositional techniques. With various projects "in hand", such as, for example, participation as collaborator in the realization of electronics on a monographic CD recording with works by Cândido Lima, Ângela Lopes believes to belong to a generation of fortunate composers, with opportunities unthinkable in other times, on the one hand, but on the other, with "academic means where the ruling conservatism does not allow changes in what concerns new creation, innovation, difference, novelty and the contemporary." "In this panorama, the present situation of Portuguese music is certainly not desirable, but perhaps acceptable", says the composer in the Questionaire, which in November is published in the mic.pt "In Focus" section.

TWO WORLD PREMIERE PERFOMANCES AT THE GULBENKIAN FOUNDATION ON THE NEW MUSIC REVIEW LOUNGE
In November the New Music Review Lounge publishes two reviews by Jakub Szczypa and Álvaro García de Zúñiga of two concerts at the Grand Auditorium of the Calouste Gulbenkian Foundation, with world premiere performances of new works for orchestra by Sérgio Azevedo – "Erasing Mahler" (September 29, 2012) and by Vasco Mendonça – "Group Together, avoid speech" (October 17 and 19, 2012).

ÂNGELA DA PONTE EDITED BY THE MIC.PT
The Portuguese Music Research & Information Centre started editing scores by Ângela da Ponte. There is already one of her scores available on the mic.pt.

Arte Eletroacústica is a radio programme presented fortnightly, realized and produced by the Miso Music Portugal and the Portuguese Music Research & Information Centre for the Antena 2, in conjunction with the Ars Acustica group, of the European Broadcasting Union. Arte Eletroacústica is presented by Miguel Azguime and coordinated by Jakub Szczypa.

ANTÓNIO FERREIRA'S "LES BARRICADES MYSTÉRIEUSES" ON WMD2012
Antonio Ferreira's electroacoustic piece "Les Barricades Mystérieuses" (2009) was presented on October 25 at the World Music Days 2012 of the International Society for Contemporary Music (10h00 p.m. Musiques & Recherches, Acousmatic Music Festival, "L'Espace du Son"), which is taking place in Belgium until November 4. The piece was selected from the Portuguese official application for the World Music Days.

COMPOSING WITH SOUNDS
Composing With Sounds is an international project, bringing together high-level professional cultural and educational institutions, schools and musicians of all ages. In order to introduce electroacoustic music making to younger audiences, the Compose With Sounds software has been created. This project funded by the EU Culture 2007-2013 is a partnership between several european institutions among which is Miso Music Portugal.
Compose With Sounds is a powerful, yet intuitive software in which you will learn how to compose electro-acoustic music in which sounds, rather than notes, are used as the basic building blocks for a piece of music.
Compose With Sounds will be completely free to download and available on Mac OSX, Windows and Linux.

THE MATOSINHOS STRING QUARTET IN MADRID
In the context of the cultural exchange established by Miso Music Portugal and the Fundacion Sax-Ensemble, the Matosinhos String Quartet / Miso Studio presents on November 6, at 7:00 pm a concert entirely dedicated to the new musical creation of the Iberian Peninsula.
This concert will be held under the Ciclo de Conciertos de Musica para el Tercer Milenio and will take place at the Centro Cultural Nicólas Salmerón in Madrid. The program will include 4 works by the portuguese composers Miguel Azguime, António Pinho Vargas and Álvaro Salazar.
