KA'MI "IN FOCUS" ON MIC.PT IN MAY
Ka'mi, the composer "In Focus" in May on the mic.pt, celebrates this year his 40th anniversary. His fascination towards music began very early, what led him to study guitar. A compositional side has already been present in this initial process either through reading books and articles on musical theory, or through investigating concepts which could be integrated in his way of playing. He attended Architecture at the Lusíada University and after that Geology at the Science Faculty of the Lisbon University. In 2001 he finished Musical Science and began to study Composition at the Superior School of Music in Lisbon, where he had as professors, Christopher Bochmann, António Pinho Vargas, Luís Tinoco and João Madureira. In 2005, 2007 and 2008 he participated in the Gulbenkian Orchestra Workshops for Young Composers, with the pieces "Fragment", "Glosa (In Memoriam)" and "Peça para Eça", respectively. Presently he develops his work in Vienna (Austria) as PhD student of the Universität für Musik und darstellende Kunst Wien, realizing a study on Microtonality, with special focus on the string quartets by Georg Friedrich Haas. His last piece "A.Sch_B: In memoriam Manuel João Fernandes (1920-2012)" was written for a project by Hong-Kai Wang, artist invited by the Arnold Schönberg Center in Vienna. " To find music in everything that surrounds me is not an option, it is not a choice or even an ambition. It is a way of being and a form of being in life and in the world ", tells us Ka'mi in the Questionnaire / Interview, which this month is published in the "In Focus" section of the mic.pt.
