Tiago de Sousa Derriça was born in Lisbon in 1986. He attended the Metropolitana Music Conservatoire, where he studied Cello with Eugen Prochác, Peter Flanagan and João Pires. During this period of time he had Composition lessons with the composer Pedro Faria Gomes.
Tiago Derriça studied at the ESML – Music College of Lisbon and at the University of Évora, where he finished two Master Degrees with the supervision of Carlos Marecos and Christopher Bochmann, respectively. He also graduated in Composition from the ESML – Music College of Lisbon, where he studied with António Pinho Vargas, João Madureira, Luís Tinoco and Sérgio Azevedo.
His music has been performed by several chamber groups, being, on the one hand, a genre to which he has dedicated much of his production. On the other hand, he has also written for multiple orchestras and choirs, such as the Albany Symphony Orchestra, Chamber Orchestra Kremlin, Menuhin Academy Soloists, New Orchestra of Lisbon, Gulbenkian Orchestra, Metropolitan Orchestra of Lisbon, Orchestra of the North, Lisbon Sinfonietta, United Europe Chamber Orchestra, Gulbenkian Choir, MPMP Choir, Olisipo Vocal Group and Ricercare Choir. In addition to being regulary performed in Portugal, his work has been presented in several countries in Europe, the USA and Russia.
Tiago Derriça's production has also been focused on music for theater. He's collaborated with the Trindade Theatre and the stage director Maria Emília Correia, writing the music for the play Não se ganha, Não se paga!, by Dário Fo. He was also the composer and orchestrator of the piece Uma Bizarra Salada, with texts by Karl Valentin, premiered at São Luiz – Municipal Theatre, with the staging of Beatriz Batarda and the musical direction of Cesário Costa. He also composed music for the plays Alice no País das Maravilhas (Alice in Wornderland) and A Bela e o Monstro (The Beauty and the Beast), staged by Paulo Sousa Costa and João Didelet, these being presented all over the country.
He has also worked as an orchestrator and arranger in several projects, including: collaborations with Rodrigo Leão, the guitarists Fernando Alvim, Piñeiro Nagy and Ricardo Parreira, soprano Elisabete Matos and the fado artists Ana Moura, Cuca Roseta, Katia Guerreiro, Mafalda Arnauth, Raquel Tavares and Ricardo Ribeiro.
Tiago Derriça's work is published on CD by the labels Centaur, CULTlabel, Deutsche Grammophon, Direcção Geral das Artes, HEVHETIA and Metropolitana.
He is currently teaching Composition and Music Theory at the Academia de Amadores de Música (Music Amateurs Academy), the Academia Musical dos Amigos das Crianças (Children's Friends Music Academy) and Luís António Verney School.

Biography
