Born in Lisbon, in 1973. 1996-2001 graduated in Musicology by the UNL-FCSH (Mário Vieira de Carvalho, Rui Vieira Nery, Salwa Castelo-Branco, Manuel Carlos de Brito, Luísa Cymbron and Tomás Henriques, etc.). 2001-2006 studied Composition at ESML (Christopher Bochmann, António Pinho Vargas, Luís Tinoco, João Madureira, Roberto Perez, Sérgio Azevedo, etc.). 2006-2008 Post-graduate in Composition with Gerd Kühr and Pierluigi Billone at KUG in Graz, Austria. Currently producing his Doctorate thesis with Prof. Reinhard Kapp at MDW in Vienna, on the subject of Microtonality.
Composition Seminars at the Summer Courses in Darmstadt in 2004 and 2010 and IMPULS Akademie in Graz in 2007 and 2011 (Brian Ferneyhough, Georg Friedrich Haas, Beat Furrer, Pierluigi Billone, Toshio Hosokawa, Enno Poppe, Rebecca Saunders, Wolfgang Mitterer, Jorge Sanchez-Chiong, Chaya Czernowin, Hans Thomalla and Peter Ablinger) and at the Gulbenkian Foundation in 2005 with Emmanuel Nunes.
Selected for the 3rd (2005), 5th (2007) and 6th (2008) Workshop of Gulbenkian Orchestra for young Portuguese Composers with the works Fragment, Glosa (in memoriam) and Peça para Eça, and selected for the 1st Atelier for Orchestra for young Composers with Algarve Orchestra in 2007 with the work Oito Minutos para Orquestra.
Scholarship from the “FCT- Fundação para a Ciência e a Tecnologia” between 2008-2011.
In 2010 Sonderart des Kreisens is awarded 2nd prize in chamber music in the 5th Composition Competition of the “Festival Internacional de Música da Póvoa de Varzim” 2010.

After graduating in Composition, in 2006, pursued his studies in Composition with a post-graduate course with Gerd Kühr and Pierluigi Billone at KUG in Graz, Austria.
Selected for the 1st Atelier for Orchestra for young Composers with Algarve Orchestra in 2007 with the work Oito Minutos para Orquestra, conducted by Cesário Costa .
Invited to be part of the official portuguese section for the Festival ISCM - World Music Days 2008, in Lithuania, with the piece Näherungen for trumpet and Electronics.
Selected from the project “Klangwege 2008” (supervised by the composers Gerd Kühr and Wolfram Schurig) with the work Jenseits des Klanges for the Festival “Steirischer Herbst” in co-production with “Musikprotokoll”- ORF.
In 2008 the work Rastos de uma Resposta for trumpet was comissioned by Antena 2/RTP for the “Prémio Jovens Músicos 2008” (Young Musicians Award 2008), published by AVA Editions (other Works published on PMIC - www.mic.pt).
In 2010 returns to the Summer Courses in Darmstadt, where besides having classes with Brian Ferneyhough, Enno Poppe, Rebecca Saunders, Jorge Sanchez-Chiong and Hans Thomalla, was also selected for the “Cello-Composition-Workshop” tutored by Lucas Fels and Hans Thomalla, which presented the opportunity to work closely on …Urzeit aus der Zeit… with the cellist Jan-Filip Tupa.
The piece Sonderart des Kreisens is awarded 2nd prize, in the category of chamber music, of the 5th Composition Competition of the “Festival Internacional de Música da Póvoa de Varzim” 2010.
In 2011 attended the IMPULS Akademie in Graz (Austria), where along with composition lessons with Georg Friedrich Haas, Beat Furrer, Pierluigi Billone and Peter Ablinger, has also partaken in workshops with Uli Fussenegger, Petra Hoffmann and Ian Pace.
In 2012, the work for ensemble, wyschnegradsky_revisited was presented by the Ensemble PHACE | CONTEMPORARY MUSIC (Simeon Pironkoff, Cond.) within the NeW_AiR project (a Cooperation-project between the Universität für Musik & darstellende Kunst and the Akademie der bildenden Künste, coordinated by Jorge Sánchez-Chiong and Reinhard Fuchs).
Also in 2012, the Ensemble Platypus (Jaime Wolfson, Cond.) rendered in Echoraum the first Austrian presentation of Sonderart des Kreisens.
In 2013 was amongst 12 invited composers for Hong-Kai Wang’s project “What’s the consequence of musical change?”, for the exhibition “Art is: new Art” at the Arnold Schönberg Center in Vienna, for which A.Sch_B: In memoriam Manuel João Fernandes (1920-2012) was written.
