Cláudio Miguel de Pina was born on the 2
nd of August, 1977 in Lisbon. He started his musical studies at the age of seven with the Armed Forces Symphonic Band, studying Music Theory, Organ, Trumpet and Guitar. At the age of twelve he became choralist at the Santa Maria de Belém Children Choir, performing in several operas at the São Carlos National Theatre in Lisbon. Few years later he enrolled in the Pipe Organ degree at the Gregorian Institute in Lisbon, studying Gregorian Chant, Composition and Music History, with João Vaz, Ana Paula Mendes, Armando Possante,
César Viana and Maria Helena Pires de Matos. At the same time he started studying Physics Engineering at the Science Faculty in Lisbon. His interest in Composition developed simultaneously and he deepened his studies in the framework of workshops and masterclasses, in addition to private lessons with
Eurico Carrapatoso. The following years he dedicated to Jazz, enroling in the advanced degree of Piano at the Hot Jazz Club, where he studied with Felipe Melo and composition with Pedro Madaleno. He founded a Jazz Quartet, playing Hammond organ. Within his interest in Early Music he realised several masterclasses with Adam Woolf and Win Becu. Since 25 years Cláudio Pina has performed regularly at the Parish where he's titular organist, playing on a 18
th century historical Portuguese organ made by António Xavier Machado e Cerveira. His interest in Contemporary Music led him to studying Electroacoustic Music with Gilles Gobeil, Trevor Wishart, Hans Tuschtku, Adrian Moore, Åke Parmerud and
Jaime Reis; he also studied spatialisation with Annette Vande Gorne and
Miguel Azguime. Cláudio Pina also studied Acoustic Music with Vincent Debut. He did his Master's Degree in Musical Arts at the Social and Human Sciences in Lisbon (the NOVA University), under the tutorship of
Isabel Pires. In this context he has researched and developed extended performance techniques on the Pipe Organ with Electrocoustic Music. Currently, Cláudio Pina is realising his Musical Arts PhD (FCSH / ESML), continuing his studies and research on electroacoustic music and pipe organ. As a composer he has received several distinctions, both at national and international level.
