ORCHESTRUTOPICA "IN FOCUS" ON MIC.PT IN JUNE
In June the mic.pt “In Focus” section is dedicated to OrchestrUtopica, an ensemble, which this year celebrates the 10th anniversary of its existence. The OrchestrUtopica was founded in 2001 and since the beginning has been recognized with great enthusiasm not only by the public, but also by the critics and musical community. The ensemble corresponds to a sinfonietta format and has a special connection with current music. Composed of recognized musicians the ensemble is conceived as an instrument for composers, with main accent put on contemporary Portuguese creation. During this anniversary year the OrchestrUtopica decided to present new generations of composers in order to emphasize even more its philosophy. At the first anniversary concert, which took place on March 25th at the Belém Cultural Centre (101st concert since the beginning), the OrchestrUtopica performed works by Andreia Pinto-Correia, António Breitenfeld Sá Dantas, Filipe Esteves, João Godinho and Patrício da Silva. On July 8th, 10th and 12th the orchestra will perform a new opera by Alexandre Delgado, "A Raínha Louca" (“The Insane Queen”).   Festival CriaSons
Numerica edited some of the works performed at the Festival CriaSons of Musicamera Productions. In this edition there recordings of works by Sergio Azevedo, Jorge Costa Pito, Anne Victorino D'Almeida, Amilcar Vasques Dias and Alexandre Delgado, interpreted by Opus Ensemble, Duo Contra Cello and Lopes-Graça Quartet .

CYCLE OF CONFERENCES COMPOSITION / RESEARCH
Will take place on June 14, 2011 at the Escola Superior de Música de Lisboa a series of conferences around the general theme Composition/Research, organized by the department of composition of the School and with the participation of professors Carlos Caires, Carlos Marecos Antonio Pinho Vargas, Roberto Perez, Sergio Azevedo and João Madureira.
This is to introduce various types of reflections connected, in the case of the first panel, to the ongoing investigations by some teachers, and in the case of the second panel,to the works or the specific problem of teachers/composers.
This action aims to enrich the collective thinking within the school, increase mutual understanding of the various activities of teachers and deepen the connection with the composition of students and school in general.


MUSIC ESTATE OF MANUEL IVO CRUZ PRESENTED AT THE CATHOLIC UNIVERSITY
On June 3rd, the Catholic University of Porto presented the estate of maestro Manuel Ivo Cruz. This event took place two years after the protocol signing ceremony of donation of the estate of Manuel Ivo Cruz and the educational institution. The legacy of the musician will be available on the Internet for everyone to see. Manuel Ivo Cruz left in life, to the University, books and sheet music from Portugal and Brazil, as well as operas, concerts and programs of the collections of postcards and stamps.
The collection was organized by the Music Research Centre for Science and Technology of the Arts (CITAR). The CITAR, through its website, points out that it will provide the estate who have an interest in "knowing it, study it and interpret it." The disclosure of the legacy of Manuel Ivo Cruz is a way of enriching the artistic and scientific project of the University. "The choice of the Catholic University of Porto for responsible for maintaining the musical heritage of Manuel Ivo Cruz "reinforces the research work in the line of action of Musical Studies of the CITAR," projecting "the role of the School of the Arts of the University's cultural and public".


2011 IMC WORLD FORUM ON MUSIC
The International Music Council, the European Music Council and the Estonian Music Council are pleased to announce the 4th IMC World Forum on Music to take place in Tallinn, September 26 - October 1, 2011, under the title "Music and Social Change". The event will be staged in close collaboration with the Estonian Academy of Music and Theatre.
Tallinn will play host to the IMC World Forum on Music during the year in which the city celebrates the title of European Culture Capital 2011. Tallinn's buzzing cultural life will treat forum participants to an exciting artistic and social program.
The IMC World Forum on Music is a global knowledge-building platform on music and society in the 21st century. During the forum a variety of topics will be explored from diverse perspectives: cultural, political and economical. The IMC World Forum on Music is considered one of IMC's main contributions to setting the stage for the free celebration of music in the world.
The 2011 IMC World Forum on Music will focus on five areas which are of crucial importance to the world of music:
* Music as a tool for social change
* Current challenges and opportunities for music education
* Music distribution and export
* Music and development
* Youth: informal spaces


JOÃO PEDRO OLIVEIRA RECEIVED THE FIRST PRIZE AT THE COUNTERPOINT COMPETITION 2011
The composer João Pedro Oliveira received another 1st prize in an international competition. The Counterpoint Competition 2011 is organized by the Association for Contemporary Music Counterpoint, based in Italy and the USA. The work "Entre o Ar e a Perfeição", for flute, piano and electronic sounds, won unanimously and will be presented in several concerts. Joao Pedro Oliveira, beyond this award, this year was made ​​an honorary member of the National Academy of Music (USA and Greece), the excellence of his work as composer.
Is currently full professor at the University of Aveiro and Professor at the Universidade Federal de Minas Gerais (Brazil), where he teaches composition, analysis and electronic music.


6TH INTERNATIONAL COMPOSITION COMPETITION OF POVOA DE VARZIM The jury of the 6th International Composition Competition of Povoa de Varzim (CICPV) announced the selection of finalists for each category (Orchestral Music and Chamber Music): "Vectorial-Modular", by Gonçalo Gato, and "Sopros de um vento extinto" by Osvaldo Fernandez, are pieces to debut on July 22 ("Orchestral Music "/ Prize Hall of Povoa de Varzim). In the "Chamber Music" / “Associação Pró-Música da Póvoa de Varzim” in the July 23 concert will be in confrontation "Ainda escutas o vento?" by Aurelio Edler-Copes, and “(in)pulso(ex)pansão”, by Luciano Campbell. Still in the "Chamber Music" category, was awarded an Honorable Mention to "Dissonoramas" by Andre Codeço dos Santos, whose score was very close to the two selected works. At the end of the concert, the jury (Christopher Bochmann (President), Pedro Amaral, Carlos and Carlos Caires Marecos) will announce the final classification.
