PEDRO REBELO "IN FOCUS" ON MIC.PT IN APRIL
In May 2012 Pedro Rebelo celebrates his 40th anniversary and for this reason the mic.pt “In Focus” section is this month dedicated to the work of this composer. Pedro Rebelo’s music constitutes a field for research and experimentation in what concerns the interdisciplinary relationships between art and new technologies. Born in Viseu in 1972, Pedro Rebelo is presently Professor and Director of Research of the Sonic Arts Research Centre (SARC) at Queen’s University Belfast. In the context of the l a u t Duo, cofounded in 1999 with the saxophonist Franziska Schroeder, he dedicates himself to improvisation and performance of works with electronics and multimedia, having developed various interactive control interfaces for performance. His publications reflect his attitude towards sound design and composition articulating creative practice within the broad context of cultural theory (for example, the notion of performativity in social networks). In May visit the mic.pt and discover the work of Pedro Rebelo.

MÚSICA VIVA FESTIVAL 2012 - 18th Edition!
Portugal is facing a profound crisis: both economical and philosophical!
The art of Portuguese music is experiencing what is probably its most remarkable golden age, superior to the age of polyphony!
Contradicting the disinvestment in art and culture practiced by the Portuguese government, contemporary composers and performers affirm the richness and vitality, without precedent, to which the Música Viva Festival gives voice, being a privileged vehicle for communication of music created here and now, of music reinventing itself day after day.
A space for circulation, and meeting of ideas and aesthetics, the programme of the 18th edition of the Música Viva Festival, which will be taking place in Lisbon at two different venues and timelines – September 18th to 23rd at the Belém Cultural Centre and from October 6th to 10th and the Goethe Institut in Lisbon – will be dedicated, in its essence, to new Portuguese creation, with the focus, once again, on the relations of music with technology.

2nd INTERNATIONAL FORUM FOR YOUNG COMPOSERS
In order to stimulate the creation and circulation of new music works, the Sond'Ar-te Electric Ensemble, the Goethe Institut in Lisbon and the Musikhochschule in Munich are organizing the second edition of the Sond'Ar-te International Forum for Young Composers, which will be taking place between October 6th and 10th 2012 at the Goethe Institut in Lisbon.
