cláudio carneyro "IN FOCUS" ON MIC.PT IN march
2013 marks the 50 years after the death of one of the most important Portuguese composers of the 20th century, Cláudio Carneyro. In March the mic.pt “In Focus” section presents a profile of this creator. Born on January 27, 1895 (on the same month and day as Mozart) Cláudio Carneyro died on October 18, 1963 in Porto. His work can be distinguished through its aesthetic diversity, assimilating various techniques and forms of expression from the 20th century – from impressionism, passing through folklorism and neoclassicism up to the atonality / dodecaphony of the Second Viennese School. He was professor at the Conservatory of Music in Porto where he became director in 1956. During his career he made various journeys to France and the United States where he had contact with important composers and performers of that time – Paul Dukas, Aaron Copland, Darius Milhaud or Zino Francescatti, among others. The assets of his work can be found at the Porto Municipal Library, which on the occasion of the composer’s 100th birthday (March 1995) published a catalogue of his original manuscripts. In March visit the mic.pt “In Focus” section dedicated to Cláudio Carneyro.
