Portuguese, percussionist, and composer.
Francisco is currently attending the 2nd year of a master's degree in Ensemble Music with a focus on Band Conducting at the University of Aveiro, taught by professors André Granjo, António Vassalo, and
Vasco Negreiros.
He started musical studies in the academic year 2011/2012 at the Ensin'arte Escola de Música da Sociedade Filarmónica de Crestuma, and joined the Sociedade Filarmónica de Crestuma in March 2012, remaining there to date. In September 2011, he entered the 1st Grade of Percussion at the Fundação Conservatório Regional de Gaia, achieving the 5th Grade in the academic year 2015/2016, with Jacob Oliveira as the percussion teacher for 5 academic years. In September 2016, he joined the Escola Profissional de Música de Espinho in the percussion class under the instruction of professors André Dias, Eduardo Cardinho, Joaquim Alves, Nuno Simões and Rui Rodrigues. In September 2019, he started a bachelor's degree in composition at the University of Aveiro under the guidance of professors
Evgueni Zoudilkine, Henrique Portovedo,
Isabel Soveral and
Sara Carvalho.
He participated in the 2nd to 11th "Estágios D'Ouro" organized by the Sociedade Filarmónica de Crestuma, under the baton of conductors such as André Granjo, Hermenegildo Campos, Luís Carvalho, José Eduardo Gomes, Paulo Martins, Francisco Ferreira, Fernando Marinho, Rafa Agulló Albors, José Ignacio Petit, and Jan Cober. Percussion orientation was provided by Bruno Costa, Luís Ferreira, Mário Teixeira, André Dias, Pedro Fernandes, Nuno Simões, Marcelo Pinho, Sandro Andrade, and Fátima Juvandes.
He was awarded in the Musical Performance Competition organized by the Fundação Conservatório Regional de Gaia with the piece "Suite - 2nd Movement, Ponto," by Oscar Lacerda, with the final concert held on 22/06/2015 at Cine-Teatro Eduardo Brazão in Gaia.
He was finalist in the Tribuna de Jovens Intérpretes Competition, organized by the Fundação Conservatório Regional de Gaia, on 05/03/2016, with the piece "Sonatina for two or three timpani and piano" by Alexander Tcherepnin (version for three timpani).
He was awarded in the soloist competition of the Escola Profissional de Música de Espinho, performing with the OCE (Orquestra Clássica de Espinho) under the direction of Maestro Pedro Neves, interpreting Paul Creston's "Concertino for marimba and orchestra."
He participated as a composer and conductor of an ensemble formed at the Escola Profissional de Música de Espinho for the "Quem é Calouste" competition, obtaining the first place in the music category for young people aged 15 to 18.
He collaborated in various concerts of the OCE, working with conductors
Pedro Neves,
Jan Wierzba, Cesário Costa, and Jean-Marc Burfin.
He won the second prize in the VII edition of the Prémio de Composição Viana do Castelo competition with the marimba piece "Variações Espanholas."
He participated with the Sociedade Filarmónica de Crestuma in the 1st CIB - International Philharmonic Bands Competition D'Ouro on 22/11/2014, where SFC won the 1st prize (2nd place) in the 2nd Section.
In 2021, the piece "Esconder é sofrer" was awarded in the composition competition for Wind Orchestra promoted by the INATEL Foundation and the Banda Sinfónica do Exército.
In 2023, the piece
Through my Glassy Veil for Wind Orchestra and Narrator, won the first prize and the audience award at the XI Concurso Nacional de Composição of the Banda Sinfónica Portuguesa, in collaboration with the theater company "O Bando".
He collaborates with the Music School of the Sociedade Filarmónica de Crestuma, serving as a Percussion professor since the academic year 2017/18.
As a copyist, he worked for the Ekletica Association on the project "Recuperar Bomtempo/Descobrir Bomtempo," copying João Domingos Bomtempo's "Concerto para Piano nº1" and "Sinfonia n.º1." He also worked for Professor and Maestro André Granjo, copying various scores by Francisco Lacerda: "Tanagra," "Que lá vai levado!," "Provérbio de Salomão," "Pantomime," "Héroiques n.º 3 - Épitaphe," and "Guitarras de Alcácer."
