Through my Glassy Veil portrays the perspective of an observer who sees a woman's desperate struggle through her window. What is initially perceived as a distant gaze gradually transforms into something more involved, almost merging with the woman abused by the man who begs for her silence. The initial distancing is shown through simple harmonies and a melody that could be whistled; however, there is always some interruption (...). This insistent corruption proves to be a sign of eventual violence, infiltrating until it becomes the main plan and breaking any rules established at the beginning of the piece. At one point, the music itself seems irritated by the man who holds the woman down and shouts at her at the same rhythm in a total depravation of the tonal music heard before, culminating, like in the text, with resignation. Inevitably, the music ends as it began, but clearly in a different way, hurt, just like the unfortunate conclusion of so many other violent acts.
