In Focus in October on MIC.PT: DOSSIERS . PORTUGUESE COMPOSERS OF THE 20TH AND 21ST CENTURIES
The years 2015 and 2016 mark, on the one hand, the 15 years since the conception of the Portuguese Music Research & Information Centre and, on the other, the 10 year of the efective online work of the MIC.PT website, for the sake of Portuguese art and research music - its release took place on January 6, 2006, at the Camões Institute in Lisbon.
This is only one of the motives to release and develop, in parallel with the continuous edition of scores and musicological texts, the new series of digital editions, Dossiers . Portuguese Composers of the 20th and 21st Centuries, by means of which we intend to promote even more effectivelyand directly the activity of the various Portuguese contemporary composers with scores published by the MIC.PT. Apart from being an introspection in the work of these creators, every separate Dossier constitutes a kind of visit card of each composer, thus encouraging the research and (re)discovery of their music among programmers, researchers and music amateurs, and consequently increasing the visibility of Portuguese music beyond boarders.
Presently the MIC.PT provides five Dossiers, in Portuguese and English, dedicated to Paulo Ferreira-Lopes, Sara Carvalho, António Ferreira, António Chagas Rosa and Bruno Gabirro. Each Dossier is constituted by the following elements: biographical note, catalogue of works with two orders (according to instrumentation and chronological), discography and a questionnaire/interview. The questionnaire/interview constitutes a “visit” to the composers’ creative universe, simultaneously giving them the possibility to share with us various aspects of their creative path, as well as their opinions with respect to the future of music in Portugal and around the world.
This month discover the Dossiers . Portuguese Composers of the 20th and 21st Centuries, the new series of digital editions developed by the MIC.PT.

The programme of the concert on October 16 also includes pieces by Donatoni, Juro Kim Feliz and Lachenmann.

Salt Itinerary at Teatro da Rainha
The multimedia opera Salt Itinerary with music and text composition by Miguel Azguime, composer published by the MIC.PT, and video composition by Paula Azguime, will have two performances on October 16 and 17 at the Teatro da Rainha in Caldas da Rainha (Portugal). Created between 2003 and 2006, the Salt Itinerary is a one man show combining in a singular way tradition and contemporaneity, poetry, music and image. This opera is a reflection on creation and madness, revolving around language - words as meaning and words as sound - treated as a dimensions of the voice, which on its part constitutes the extension of the body. All these elements are integrated in a scenic construction, developed as a tangible resonance of the words through sound and image.

Visiting the music
of Amílcar Vasques Dias

In this context, during the second October Música Hoje (Music Today) programme, we will pay a visit to the music of this composer and pianist, whose production encompasses chamber music, both vocal and instrumental, electroacoustic music, works for symphony or wind orchestra, multimedia pieces, as well as music for cinema and theatre. "[His] music", wrote in 2001 the musicologist Teresa Cascudo, "shows a marked tendency to simplify the musical material giving him great dramatic and sound effect, still reflecting the influence of jazz improvisation techniques".
