Elsa Marques Silva was born in Oporto. She started her musical studies at the age of six at the Academia de Música de Vilar do Paraíso. Owner of a bachelor’s degree from ESMAE – Porto, as Pedro Burmester’s student, later got a Master’s degree from the Hartt School of Music (University of Hartford, USA) where she studied with Luiz de Moura Castro. Elsa attended several masterclasses with personalities as Helena Sá e Costa, Dmitri Paperno, Vitalij Margulis, Boris Berezowsky, Tânia Achot , Nina Svetlanova, e Peter Eicher, among others. Won many national and international awards, as the 1st prize in Covilhã piano Competiton, 2nd prize at the Helena Costa Competition, 2nd prize at the “Young Artist Piano Competition”, Connecticut, E.U.A. As a soloist, played with the Oporto National Orchestra, North Orchestra, Remix – Youth Orquestra, with conductors such as Meir Minsky, Ferreira Lobo, Nicholas Kok, Jean-Marc Burfin and Tolga Kashif. Also played many solo and chamber music recitals all across Portugal and in Spain, Germany, Brasil, UK and USA. Played with Remix-Ensemble Casa da Música and Oporto National Orchestra with conductors as Stefan Ashbury, Michael Zilm, Miguel Bernat and Cesário Costa. She is a member of the contemporary music ensemble Orchestrutópica and of the chamber music group Camerata Senza Misura. Her studies abroad were supported by a scholarship from the Hartt School of Music and the Evelyn Bonar Storrs Scholarship Fund. Elsa recorded for the label Numérica and for RDP.
