Program Notes
“The ancient people built Valdrada on the banks of a lake with houses all balconies above each other and
high streets that make the balustrade parapets loom over the water. Thus, when the traveler arrives, he sees two cities: one on the right over the lake and reflected upside down. Nothing exists or happens in one Valdrada that the other Valdrada does not repeat, because the city was built so that all its points were reflected by its mirror, and Valdradain the water contains not only all the striations and finishes of the facades that rise above the lake, but also the interior of the houses with the ceilings and floors, the perspective of the hallways, the mirrors in the closets.
The inhabitants of Vladrada know that all their acts are at the same time this act and its mirror image,
that belongs to the special dignity of images, and this conscience of theirs prohibits them from abandoning themselves for a single moment to the
chance and oblivion (...)”
