The concept of the ‘vanishing point’, which originated in visual art and perspective theory, can also be transferred to music, where it takes on a symbolic and structural character. Just as in drawing, where the vanishing point creates the illusion of depth, in music this concept can be used to describe moments when the musical structure concentrates, expands or transforms, giving a sensation of movement, distension and convergence.
