Christopher Bochmann IN FOCUS ON MIC.PT IN June
This month, Christopher Bochmann, composer, teacher and conductor, responds to the MIC.PT Questionnaire / Interview published in the In Focus section on the occasion of his 30th anniversary as principal conductor of the Orquestra Sinfónica Juvenil, which is being celebrated this year.

Pupil of Nadia Boulanger and Richard Rodney Bennett, among others, Christopher Bochmann has been present in the Portuguese music life for around 35 years, having developed an educational activity, which has influenced various generations of Portuguese composers. His prolific creation as composer includes an extensive list of works of almost all musical genres, from solo to orchestral music, from chamber music to opera… Although all of his works are marked by the rigour of his musical thought and his compositional technique, they do not lack a profound emotional impact.
As the composer mentions in the MIC.PT Questionnaire / Interview: "I feel very close to Bach's music: I identify myself absolutely with the idea that music is either an extension of life, or its expression (…). Fortunately, music can move me - even to tears..."; and he also emphasizes: "I have no doubts when it comes to the mutual influence between the various aspects of my musical activity. (…). The need to define things, which teaching requires, helps me in developing compositional technique in a more conscious way."

In June, visit the MIC.PT In Focus section with the Questionnaire / Interview to Christopher Bochmann.
