Program Notes
In this work, Prelude and Choro, I tried to comply with the request – which would be challenging for the interpreter – but always combining virtuosity with rich musical content, aesthetically committed to Brazilian music. This included a formal design directed by an accellerando that goes until the end of the work leaning on modal centers, and fragments where the interpreter improvises on given material. Another important compositional factor is the contrast between atonal and modal sections, with the progressive victory of modalism that culminates at the end of the work.
