In this work, Race, I used a circus, parodic environment, as a frame to express what I feel in the face of some human behaviours: like the mixture of tragedy and ridicule, or simple joy mixed with hysteria, or the calm that comes from depression. It is music of extremes, where I did not contain my irony. I also gave in to abstraction, and punctuated the work with lighter passages carried by the flavour of timbre, harmony or the play between contrasting textures. Although I had no programmatic intentions, there is some theatricality inspired by the painting The Fight Between Carnival and Lent by Bruegel the Elder.
