Program Notes
Inspired by Sophia de Mello Breyner Andresen's stunning text O Silêncio, this play (...) interweaves words and music. It begins with a serene atmosphere, illustrating a calm, starry night. With exotic touches from the Orient, but deeply grounded in the aesthetics of classical music, the composition gradually increases in intensity. The delicate notes evoke the breeze and the twinkling of the stars, while a sharp scream breaks the stillness of the night, and it is here that the music takes on a visceral character. As the story progresses, the cries of a desperate woman reverberate, and the music, intense and penetrating, illustrates her anguish and despair as she struggles against the oppressive silence. The tension grows, immersed in a cacophony of emotions, until it gradually gives way to a silent, resigned sadness reminiscent of the beginning.
