The work Itinerário das Amoras Bravas was commissioned by Síntese - Contemporary Music Group, on the occasion of the celebrations of Eugénio de Andrade's centenary. It was premiered by the same group on October 14, 2023, at the Centro de Cultura Contemporânea de Castelo Branco.
It is a work that is based on the geographical itinerary of the poet who, having been born in Beira Baixa, spent a large part of his life in Porto, a city with which he formed a complex and intense poetic relationship. This sentimental geography coincides with the composer, who, conversely, was born in Porto and lives in Beira Baixa. In this sense, the ambivalence of the relationship with the territories of both poet and composer intersects in the reading of the poems, with special focus on the complex connection that all Portuguese people have to their country, always imbued with sweetness, tenderness, love for earthy, but often simultaneously marked by a somewhat bitter and acidic flavor. The music of Itinerário das Amoras Bravas tries to explore this aspect of some of Eugénio de Andrade's poetry: the pain and uncertainty that underlie the search for purity in our relationship with the territory.
