Integrais (Integrals) is a cycle of pieces for solo instruments, exploring the possibilities of combinations and permutations, that can be achieved using two different intervals.
The title itself derives from the mathematical process, that refers to the possibility of analysing an integral function, through its derivative. Therefore, the structure and coherence of these pieces is ‘discovered’ in the compositional process, through the analysis of all possible relations existing between the two generating intervals.
Integrais I for violin solo uses as generating intervals the minor second and augmented fourth.
Integrais II for clarinet solo uses as generating intervals the majorsecond and perfect fourth.
Integrais III for horn solo uses as generating intervals the minor third and major third.
Integrais IV for saxophone solo uses as generating intervals the minor second and perfect fourth.
