Noa–Noa, Tribute to Gauguin was composed in 1995 at the Centro de Criação de Informática Musical of the Portuguese Music Youth. The piece is a kind of electro acoustic sigh, after an inebriated journey into Gauguin's world of Tahiti. As a literary base, the piece has excerpts of a book by the painter himself, Noa-Noa, in which he tells us about life episodes with the natives, from fishing to love, and always with the existing perfume in the islands (Noa-Noa) present in every line. If this small piece, by any chance, has also lines and paragraphs and exclamations, then it was the composer’s wish to create a constant musical perfume, or by other words, a present musical “Noa-Noa”. The speaker heard in the piece is Pedro Sol.
