Reflecting upon the colours of Mondrian, upon the harmony of Lutoslawski, upon the gesture of Kurtág, upon the texture of Ligeti and upon the static music of Rituel by Pierre Boulez, this piece is the result of the necessity to conciliate influences.
Message – Homage results from a study of colours, harmonies, gestures and textures that I wish to underline with the insistence – also observed in previous pieces I have written – of a static and calm movement, like an immobile landscape, like a picture without temporal factor.
Opting for a simple musical discourse allowed me to obtain an economy of musical material. In this piece, three different materials were used, each associated with a specific timbre and with a pair of intervals. The progressive appearance of these materials, their superposition and their insistence, generates the fixed harmonic field that is developed in the second part of the piece.
Message – Homage is dedicated to the Professor, Conductor and Composer Christopher Bochmann, who had followed the compositional process of this piece.
For the latter and for the other names already mentioned, this orchestral moment constitutes a message, in the form of homage.
