Jorge Prendas was born in Oporto in 1968. He started his musical studies at the age of 10 and studied in the Conservatory of Oporto where he finished the intermediate Piano and Composition course. After graduating in Computer Science at the University of Oporto, he restarted his Composition studies at the University of Aveiro, working with Isabel Soveral, Sara Carvalho, Evgueni Zoudilkine and João Pedro Oliveira. In 2003 he started a master degree in Composition at the University of Aveiro. Two of his electronic works were distinguished at the Musica Viva International Festival. In 2002, A aparente ilusão de um som got an “Encouragement Award” and was selected to be performed at the Seoul International Computer Music Festival 2002. In 2003, Uma leitura possível para um poema de Eugénio de Andrade was Honours Mention. Jorge Prendas is also the founder of the most well known portuguese “A cappella” group, “Vozes da Rádio”, with which he has already recorded several cd’s. Actually he teaches Composition and History of Music at the Conservatory of Oporto, at the Professional School of Music in Espinho and at the Academy of Music “Óscar da Silva” in Matosinhos.
