Eli Camargo Júnior was born in São Vicente, state of São Paulo, Brazil, in 1956.

He studied Classical Guitar with Henrique Pinto and participated in seminars with Abel Carlevaro and, in Lisbon, he held a two-year internship Virtuosity and Contemporary Portuguese Music. As a soloist, he performed at concert halls such as the Municipal Theater of Santos, Theater of the Art Museum of São Paulo, Aylton Escobar Hall, Noble Hall of the National Conservatory of Lisbon, Portuguese Society of Authors, Lisbon.

He studied Choral and Orchestral Direction at several seminars and intensive courses in Brazil, Portugal and Spain, having given concerts with choral formations and instrumental groups for several years.

Eli Camargo Jr. holds a BA in Classical Guitar from the Faculty of Music of Santos (Henrique Pinto), Brazil, BA and Licenciate Degree in Composition from the Escola Superior de Música de Lisboa (António Pinho Vargas and Christopher Bochmann), a PhD in Composition from the University of Évora (Christopher Bochmann and Vanda de Sá) - thesis: Synchronism in Chamber Music. Notation Strategies.

He taught at the Faculty of Music of Santos, at several Regional Conservatories in Portugal and at the Piaget Institute of Almada. Since 1999 he has been a professor at the Artisic Music School of the National Conservatory of Lisbon, where he implemented the Basic Composition Course, currently teaching the subjects – Composition and Analysis of Performance Techniques.

Since 2004, Eli Camargo Júnior's music has been preformed by soloists and groups, such as the Lisbon Contemporary Music Group, Metropolitana Soloists, Entre Madeiras Trio, Júlio Guerreiro, Paulo Amorim, Luís Gomes and Catherine Strynckx. He has also received institutional support, for example, in the framework of the Antena 2 Concert The work of Eli Júnior for guitar or the monographic concert Elle, organised at the O'culto da Ajuda in Lisbon (prod. Miso Music Portugal). His works have been recorded by the Entre Madeiras Trio and published by the MPMP and AVA Musical Editions.

Eli Camargo Júnior is coordinator of the Didactic Project, EMCN Music and Image Centre, created in 2020 in partnership with Jorge Machado (electronic music) and João Vasco Almeida (photography and video). This initiative, presently in progress, has been approved by the Pedagogical Council of the National Conservatory in Lisbon. It provides multimedia formation to the students of the Composition Course.

In 2021 he became Integrated Member/ Researcher at the CESEM – Centre for the Study of the Sociology and Aesthetics of Music at the Nova University of Lisbon.
