Program Notes
A Cor do Pensamento (The Color of Thought) is a work of acousmatic music whose idea originated from the experience provided "in loco" by a street musician in New Delhi (India), who sang Indian folk music and was accompanied by a stringed instrument called kamancheh. The timbre and expressive richness of that moment helped me to establish the work’s concept. As for the material, I used sounds recorded with seven portuguese guitars, played in an unconventional way, using various resources such as the ordinary violin bow, arco battuto, arco col legno, sounds percussed and sliding the fingertips and the palm of the hand over the top harmonic. Throughout the discourse I established a formal relationship between instrumental music and concrete music, the organization of layers, dynamics and the curve of the work, a reference to orchestral thought.
